Ioan Fiscuteanu, the Romanian actor that starred in the leading role of The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, the Romanian internationally renowned film, passed away in a Transylvania hospital on Saturday.

The actor played in various successful Romanian movies but Moartea domnului Lazarescu consecrated Fiscuteanu abroad as the movie won some 30 international trofees, including the the Un certain Regard at the Cannes Film Festival.

In the film, Fiscuteanu played Mr. Lazarescu, an old, sick man passed from one hospital to another by abusive doctors typical of the Romanian health system.

In 2003, Romanian President honored Fiscuteanu for his prestigious activity in the Romanian theater and movie industry.
