Cea de-a 8-a editie a Festivalului International de Film de la Bratislava se desfasoara in perioada 1-9 decembrie 2006.
Concursul este impartit pe sapte sectiuni, dupa cum urmeaza: The International Competition of the First and Second Feature Films, Made In Europe (panorama cinematografiei europene), Off the Mainstream, National Hits, GMT, The Profile of British Director Michael Winterbottom, Focus: The Other Balkan, Asylum - short films, Slovak Films 2006 si Santa Claus (filme pentru copii).
In cadrul fetivalului va avea loc o confruntare a celor mai renumite filme, premiate la alte festivaluri de prestigiu din intreaga lume, cum ar fi: filmul romanesc “A fost sau n-a fost”, care a castigat trofeulCamera d'Or la Cannes, filmul belgian “Knadak” premiat ca fiind cel mai bun debut la Venetia, castigatorul Festivalului San Sebastian, filmul francez “Mon fil a moi”.
La sectiunea “Off the Mainstream” participa filme de inalte calitate, fapt care va atrage, cu siguranta atentia multor spectatori. Romania este reprezentata in cadrul acestei sectiuni de filmul “Legaturi bolnavicioase”, primul lungmetraj al lui Tudor Giurgiu.
In cadrul acestui festival, la categoria "Focus: The Other Balkan", mai participa alte doua filme romanesti: Tertium non datur", un mediumetraj de Lucian Pintilie si "Visul lui Liviu", un film mai vechi al lui Corneliu Porumboiu. Corneliu Porumboiu concureaza si la sectiunea International Competition of First and Second Feature Films, cu celebrul film “A fost sau n-a fost?”.
