"The Washington Post" lanseaza ipoteza potrivit careia viitorul ambasador al SUA la Bucuresti va fi Julie Finley, fost lider al filialei din Districtul Columbia a Partidului Republican intre 1992-2000 si descrisa de cotidianul amintit drept "o donatoare majora" a partidului.
Finley este membru fondator al "Comitetul pentru NATO", membra in consiliul de administratie al "Proiectului pentru Democratii in Tranzitie" si al "Comitetul pentru Eliberarea Irakului".
Inainte de activitatea politica, Finley a lucrat in presa pentru "The Washington Post" si televiziunile NBC si ABC News. O eventuala numire ca ambasador la Bucuresti ar surveni unei incercari nereusite de a prelua postul similar de la Varsovia, in timpul precedentului mandat Bush, comenteaza "The Washigton Post".
Biografie Julie Finley
Julie Finley, a native of Illinois and longtime resident of Washington, D.C., serves in several capacities within political and community organizations both nationally and locally. Since 1997, she has served as Co-Chairman of the Republican National Committee's major fundraising arm, Team 100. She is currently serving as National Committee Woman for the DC Republican Committee.
Mrs. Finley has supported Republican candidates at all levels. She served as National Co-Chairman of Finance for Dole for President in 1995-96, in addition to serving as Deputy Chairman of the Republican Party's Victory '96 Committee. In addition to being a Dole-Kemp delegate, Mrs.
Finley served as Assistant Secretary of the 1996 Republican National Convention in San Diego, as well as on the Platform and Arrangements Committees. She was the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Security. In 1992, Mrs. Finley served as a Bush-Quayle delegate to the Republican National Convention in Houston. She has hosted numerous fundraisers for candidates from across the country.
One of Mrs. Finley's most time-intensive activities is serving as a Founding Board Member of the US Committee on NATO, which advocated the expansion of NATO from 1996 and currently serves as a forum for the protection of the NATO alliance. She is a Board member of the American Academy in Berlin. Mrs.
Finley is also the Chairman and Founder of the Republican Primary PAC, as well as a Founding Member of The WISH List and the Council for Republican Environmental Advocacy (CREA). She is a Steering Committee Member on the Republican Leadership Council.
Mrs. Finley serves as a Trustee for the Library of Congress Trust Fund Board and the Washington Opera. She previously served as a Trustee for the Potomac School in McLean, Virginia and the Marvelwood School in Cornwall, Connecticut. She was Board Chairman and a Trustee of the Beauvoir School in Washington, DC. Mrs.
Finley also served on the Boards of the Greater Washington Boys' and Girls' Clubs, Project MATCH, and the National Cathedral Association.
A graduate of Miss Porter's School in Farmington, Connecticut, Mrs. Finley attended Vassar College. She was employed by NBC' s Office of Corporate Affairs and later ABC Network News in Washington. She then worked for the Washington Post and subsequently for the late columnist Joseph Kraft.
Mrs. Finley has appeared on numerous local and national TV and radio programs, including CNN's Inside Politics, C-SPAN's Morning Journal, and the Newshour with Jim Lehrer.
Mrs. Finley is widowed and has two sons, Abner and Ben.
