The final report of the Romanian Parliamentary committee investigating the case of Sports minister Monica Iacob Ridzi recommends an official investigation for abuse in service and delapidation. Moreover, the committee calls for her resignation. Democrat Liberal deputies refused to vote for the report and do not agree with the committee's conclusions.

Parliamentary committee president, Liberal Alina Gorghiu declared

The main conclusions of the committee

  • The Committee found a series of breaches of legislation
  • The Committee recommends that the Court of Accounts should investigate the contracts undertaken for Youth Day
  • The Committee calls for the resignation of the minister
  • The Committee calls for an investigation against minister Ridzi for abuse in service and dilapidation

The main conclusions put forward by the Democrat Liberals

  • PDL does not agree with the conclusions of the Committee and argues that the ministry cannot be accused of negligence
  • PDL argue that committee did not have enough evidence to take a decision
  • PDL considers that it cannot reach a decision based on clear cut evidence on whether the minister should be the subject of an official penal investigation

PM Emil Boc declared that the executive will dismiss any minister, subject of an official penal investigation. Their lay off will have to be called by the both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies or by the President. Boc emphasized that he acts according to the Constitution.

The report will be discussed in the Chamber of Deputies and sent to the judicial committee for analysis. According to the regulations, the judicial committee needs to either reinforce or contradict the conclusions of the investigation committee. After wards, the final decision will be open to a vote within the Chamber of Deputies.

If the judicial committee refuses to meet during the Parliamentary holiday to analyze the report and if the permanent office within the Chamber refuses to call for an extraordinary session for the case, a final decision on the case could be postponed until Fall.
