1.What the newspapers say: November 9, 2006 A fine day today for a nation that’s one of a kind. No big news, in fact almost no news at all, still the newspapers manage to fill their pages with the most unusual facts and deeds of the most usual Romanians. A hacker in a monastery, experiments on the military, counterfeit underwear and all the small events that make living in Romania a passionate experience.
2.Strife hits Liberal group in Parliament hard The leaders of the National Liberal Party-PNL groups in the Senate and the House of Deputies were forced to convene special sessions with their colleagues after an appeal to accept to dissident Liberals back in the party was signed by no less than 35 prominent members. The two, ex-PNL leaders Teodor Stolojan and Valeriu Stoica, have been ousted from the party for being extremely critical of its current leadership.
3.Unemployment down to 5% The unemployment rate decreased in September to 5% of Romania’s active population, after August’s 5.6%, a release of the National Statistics Institute informs.According to the data provided by the National Labor Force Agency, the number of unemployed personnel at the end of September was 440,200 persons, 53,600 less compared to September 2005. Women were 42.6% of the total.
4.Dinel Staicu and Ion Popescu in court for 5 million euros fraud Dinel Staicu, owner of the Ceausescu Museum and president of the Oltenia Investment Fund (SIF), along with Ion Popescu, former president of the bankrupt International Bank of Religions (BIR).Two other employees of the bank, the former “Credit” division manager and the chief of service will be judged in the same case.
5.Orange to bill in European currency Orange decided to compute its prices in euros, starting on January 8, 2007, using the euro/dollar exchange rate announced by the Romanian National Bank for the date, the Orange Romania CEO, Richard Moat announced on Thursday. The bills will be charged according to the new fees and expressed, as usual, in Romanian Lei (RON).
6.New residential complex in Pipera area A new residential complex will be developed in the luxury Northern area of Bucharest, Pipera, with an investment adding up to 11 million euros, a press release of the Regatta real estate company informs. The project, launched in October, covers a 4,910 square meters and includes three blocks of flats - a central one and two mirrored buildings.
7.Romanian workers in Italy demand Prodi to quit restrictions The Romanians in Italy League sent a letter to the Italian Government asking the ministers to quit the attempt to impose new restrictions on the labor market after January 1st, 2007, the date of Romania’s accession to the EU. The letter shows that the danger of a massive Romanian immigration doesn’t really exist and the new measures would only affect those already working in Italy.
8.Green Tax bites hard After Romania’s accession to the European Union, the Romanians are about to find that rights come hand in hand with duties. One of the duties will be the Green Tax for electric equipment.The tax will increase the price for electric and electronic households with 2-10 and maybe even 20 euros after January 1st, 2007.
9.Profit consolidat in crestere cu 93,3% pentru Raiffeisen International Raiffeisen International Bank-Holding AG, parte a grupului Raiffeisen Zentralbank ?sterreich AG (RZB), a inregistrat in primele trei trimestre ale anului 2006, un profit consolidat de 539,3 milioane euro, cu 93,3% mai mult comparativ cu cel obtinut in anul anterior, potrivit unui comunicat al institutiei bancare. In cel de-al treilea trimestru, banca a obtinut un profit consolidat de 250,1 milioane de euro.
10.Revelion la Herculane sau la Viena? De ce isi petrec romanii revelionul in tara in loc sa o faca in capitalele si orasele Europei? Pentru ca e mai scump in Romania, pentru ca au conditii mai proaste in Romania si, mai ales, pentru ca sunt romani. Ciudate argumente, dar par a fi singurele care pot duce la o asemenea alegere. O simpla consultare a preturilor afisate de agentiile de turism are darul de a ridica mai multe semne de intrebare decat orice problema matematica.

Joi, ultimul joc din optimi: Steaua primeste replica Unirii Alba Iulia, pe stadionul din bulevardul Ghencea, ora 20,45...
13.Noile parcaje din Bucuresti costa lunar cit rata la masina Soferii care vor fi obligati sa foloseasca viitoarele parcari din centrul Capitalei vor plati intr-o luna sume egale, daca nu chiar mai mari decit o rata la masina. Tariful este estimat la un euro pe ora, astfel incit investitia sa se amortizeze in 25 de ani. Celelalte variante sint parcajele de suprafata, mai ieftine, dar putine.
14.Foto-sperietori pe pachetele de tigari De anul viitor, producatorii si importatorii produselor din tutun vor fi obligati sa aplice pe fiecare pachet de tigari una dintre cele 14 imagini propuse de Ministerului Sanatatii Publice printr-un ordin aflat acum in dezbatere publica. Oficialii din Sanatate spun ca noile pachete de tigari vor reduce numarul fumatorilor.
15.Experiente cu substante psihedelice pe soldatii recruti Armata romana a experimentat pe vremea lui Ceausescu diverse substante psihodisleptice pe creierul uman. Scopul era anihilarea inamicului fara sa se traga un glont. Pentru asemenea "lucrari" au fost folositi recruti, dar si persoane care sufereau de diverse boli psihiatrice, multi fara sa fie informati asupra consecintelor.
16.Tribunalul Bucuresti a decis ca Adrian Iovan i-a mintit pe procurori Adrian Iovan, sotul creatoarei de moda Romanita, a tras intentionat in hotul Bogdan Iancu! Constatarea - care complica speta sotilor Iovan - apartine judecatorilor Tribunalului Bucuresti, care au mai descoperit ca pilotul Iovan a mintit in fata anchetatorilor.
17.Colectii sarite de pe fix Majoritatea colectiilor stim cu totii ce cuprind. Este vorba de tablouri, mobilier, timbre, ceasuri, s.a. Cei care colectioneaza arta poseda simt estetic iar cei care strang arme au o latura razboinica. Este greu insa de spus ce latura ascunsa au cei care colectioneaza custi de soareci sau obiecte radioactive...

Decisa sa se casatoreasca in secret din cauza publicitatii nefavorabile, Queridei nu i-a trecut nici o secunda prin cap sa o anunte pe Marioara Zavoranu de intentiile sale.
