3.Confirmed: Sentenced to death in Iraq Mohammad Munaf, a businessman connected to a terrorism scandal sparked by the kidnapping of three Romanian journalists in Iraq last year, has been sentenced to death by hanging, the US Embassy to Baghdad confirmed officially on Saturday, according to AFP. The news was also confirmed by a US Justice Department quoted by Washington Post, while Munaf’s lawyer in the United States told a Romanian TV station that the sentence was the result of an unfair trial manipulated by the US.
4.120 million euro for restructuring in mining regions The National Association for the Development of Mining Areas - ANDZM will use 120 million euro for a program of restructuring in Romania’s mining regions, which have been hard hit by closing mines and social changes. The money comes from the state budget and a World Bank loan for closing mines, environment regeneration and absorbability of social shocks.
5.Belgium ratifies Accession Treaty for Romania King of Belgium Albert II signed at the end of last week the Accession Treaty for Romania and Bulgaria, according to sources within the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Belgium is the 23rd EU member state to have ratified the Treaty, after the French Senate voted it on 3 October.
