4.New Prosecutor General takes office Romania’s youngest Prosecutor General ever, Laura Codruta Kovesi, took over her new prerogatives officially on Thursday. Kovesi, 33, ran a local branch of the anti-terrorism, anti-organized crime prosecutor’s office (DIICOT) starting January 2006. She is now replacing Ilie Botos, who resigned over a recent scandal sparked by the disappearance of a Syrian-Romanian businessman, Omar Hayssam, who’d been facing terrorism charges.
5.Suspended Defense minister may be reappointed Romania’s suspended Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu learned on Thursday that prosecutors failed to find any element to support criminal inquiries on several charges against him. Atanasiu, who was brought to court by a presidential official and a parliamentarian over abuse of office charges recently, is yet to hear the preliminary “no crime verdict” officially.
6.Poll: President remains most popular politician President Traian Basescu retains the top position among Romania’s most popular politicians, according to a new poll published by the CURS research institute on Thursday. He is followed by two politicians close to him, Theodor Stolojan and Mona Musca, while the least popular politicians are ex-PM Adrian Nastase, Hungarian Democrats leader Marko Bela and far-right leader C.V. Tudor.
7.Romania, Bulgaria to claim compensations from Serbia over oil spill Romanian and Bulgarian officials continued efforts on Thursday to clean the Danube river of an oil spill produced upstream by a fissure in a Serbian pipeline. While the Government in Bucharest said it would support Sofia urgently to stop the spill in the Bulgarian sector of the Danube, anti-pollution barrages were installed along the river to protect settlements in South-East Romania.
8.Construction works at Cernavoda nuclear units to start in 2007 Construction works at units 3 and 4 of the Cernavoda nuclear power station in SE Romania will start simultaneously at the beginning of next year with a series of preparation works at already existing facilities. The estimated costs of these works will amount to 15 million USD, an Economy Ministry press release said on Thursday.

15.Salariile muncitorilor clujeni, dublate in patru ani Salariile muncitorilor din constructii sunt in crestere considerabila fata de alte sectoare economice, in Cluj. Fondurile de salarii ale societatilor comerciale de profil din judet se majoreaza anual cu pana la 30 de procente, iar salariile au ajuns sa se dubleze fata de nivelul de acum trei ani.

19.Primarul din Ocna Mures, amendat de Prefectura Primarul PD al orasului Ocna Mures (judetul Alba), Sorin Cristea, a fost amendat de Prefectura cu 100 de milioane de lei vechi, ca urmare a intarzierilor mari inregistrate in aplicarea legilor fondului funciar. Potrivit prefectului Cosmin Covaciu, edilul a convocat in 5 luni doar 3 sedinte ale comisiei locale de fond funciar.
20.Incendiu la Palatul Finantelor din Alba Iulia Un puternic incendiu a izbucnit, ieri dupa-amiaza, in garajul Palatului Finantelor din Alba Iulia, unde erau parcate 10 autoturisme. In cladire, inaugurata in urma cu doi ani, isi desfasoara activitatea angajatii DGFP, ai Adminstratiei Financiare a municipiului, ai Garzii Financiare si ai Trezoreriei.
