1.What the newspapers say: October 2, 2006 The success of a Romanian at the Miss World competition this year is hailed in the pages of most Romanian newspapers today. They also worry about dramatic demographic changes in the country, about army plans to “spy” on its citizens”, about the costs of a virtual unification of Romania and the Moldovan Republic and the risk a recent summit of the French-speaking world may leave Romania still under the reign of the English language.
2.PM Tariceanu and President Basescu in renewed conflict Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu took stand against President Traian Basescu once again last weekend, criticizing him for not consulting with the Liberal partners in the governing coalition when he nominated a representative of the opposition to head the Romanian Intelligence Service -SRI. “Basescu has become a player in the camp of the Social Democrats [PSD - the party that led the country in 2000-04, now in opposition]”, Tariceanu accused, referring to the nomination of PSD member George Maior to run the SRI.

10.Bloomberg: Final offers for Romanian Savings House to be submitted on October 5 The improved financial offers for the privatization of the Romanian Savings House - CEC will be submitted on October 5 this year, according to Hungarian online newspaper Portfolio.hu, quoting Bloomberg. The new date challenges previous information that mentioned October 10 as the deadline for CEC offer submission.

20.Nebunia cazarilor in campusurile universitare din Cluj-Napoca Cateva mii de studenti s-au adunat de ieri dimineata in fata caminelor studentesti din campusurile clujene. Unii au asteptat ore in sir ca sa isi ia in primire locurile repartizate.O parte dintre studenti au venit de zilele trecute sa se cazeze la Cluj, pentru ca nu au reusit sa afle ca repartizarea locurilor in camine s-a facut doar duminica.
