1.What the Newspapers Say: September 27, 2006 Romania’s accession to the European Union looks a bit like a very long swim after a shipwreck. Reaching the shore exhausted, the first thing the survivor thinks is: “Well, what now”. After years of watching every official move and blaming every decision that might have jeopardized Romania’s accession, the newspapers today are satisfied with noting that the green light is on.Maybe, in a few years, some things might change, most newspapers say, then return to their usual business. 2.EU-Romania reactions following September 26 report Top EU and Romanian officials have reacted with trust and caution to the European Commission report on Tuesday that confirmed January 1, 2007 as the date Romania and Bulgaria will join the EU. In its last such report, the Commission took into consideration the progress registered by the two countries and said it trusted they’d be ready to assume all the rights and obligations of member states at the beginning of next year. But it also proposed a set of measures to push Romania and Bulgaria into further reform in key areas.

6.Magistrates approve new Prosecutor-General The Supreme Council of Magistrates-CSM unanimously approved the naming of Laura Corduta Kovesi as the new Prosecutor-General of Romania, at the proposal of Justice minister Monica Macovei. Kovesi is to replace Ilie Botos who resigned earlier this year and was later named a military prosecutor.
7.European Parliament to vote Romania report as late as December The Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament has postponed a vote on the European Commission reports on Romania and Bulgaria, which were presented on Tuesday, until November 21-23. The news comes as a Committee vote was expected in November.
8.Romania National Bank keeps interest rate at 8.75% The National Bank of Romania - BNR board decided on Wednesday to keep the monetary policy interest rate at a yearly 8.75% and to continue a strong control over monetary market liquidity through market operations. The decision comes following a positive evolution of macro-economic indices that point towards a continuous process of disinflation and a faster economic growth, thanks to increased investment and dynamic, credit-based consumption.

10.Apa si canalizare pentru Cehei si Pusta Vale Primarul orasului Simleu Silvaniei, Septimiu Turcas, ne-a informat ca a primit confirmarea de obtinere a sumei de 40 de miliarde de lei, accesata in aceasta vara, pentru extinderea retelei de alimentare cu apa si canalizare in zonele periurbane Cehei si Pusta Vale.

Ei acuza autoritatile ca nu fac nimic pentru a stopa acest fenomen, desi au facut numeroase reclamatii. In schimb, oficialii companiei neaga acuzatiile oamenilor, iar institutiile responsabile cu protectia mediului se fac ca muncesc.
13.Cad pionii lui Stanca BZA a semnalat inca din vara anului trecut afacerile ilegale desfasurate de consilierul judetean PD Salaj, Gheorghe Stanciu, unul din ex-partenerii de afaceri ai lui Viorel Stanca.
14.Fara discriminari etnice in scolile clujene Mass-media nationala a semnalat de curand existenta unor cazuri in judetele Harghita si Covasna, unde copiii romani invata la scoli maghiare, doar pentru a primi un sprijin de trei milioane de lei
15.Sinucidere sau crima Lucratorii Postului de Politie TF Dej au descoperit la sfarsitul saptamanii trecute cadavrul unei persoane asupra careia planeaza suspiciunea ca ar fi victima unei crime. Decedatul este Cornel Szabo, fost membru in Asociatia Impotriva Abuzurilor din Cluj- Napoca si lider PNL in cadrul asociatiei.

17.Santier-pericol public Traficul de pe Bulevardul Dorobantilor este ingreunat si, mai ales, periclitat de un santier al societatii Transilvania Constructii, care s-a extins peste trotuar, parcari si prima banda de circulatie de pe partea dreapta a strazii in sensul de mers.

20.Cand vine gazul si se deschide podul? Acestea sunt intrebarile de pe buzele lungite de asteptare ale tuturor sighetenilor, si nu de azi, de ieri, ci de ani buni deja. Prefectul si presedintele CJ Maramures au incercat sa dea raspunsurile potrivite, descinzand miercuri in orasul fara gaz metan si cu un pod transfrontalier inchis circulatiei - adica, Sighetu Marmatiei.
