1.What the newspapers say: September 15, 2006 Politics are all over the front pages of Romanian newspapers today, starting with an impressive media performance by President Traian Basescu and ending with controversies related to a maverick politician/businessman/football club owner who has now received the recognition of part of the Church. Corruption is also tackled at national and local level, while the media mourns a reputed analyst who died last night.
2.AMD/Intel face-off in Romania The AMD company, chip market leader Intel’s lifetime rival, announced this week it would open an office in Romania to coordinate the future company activities in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. The official announcement in this regard will be made Tuesday, September 19,m when Advanced Micro Devices-AMD organizes a press conference to communicate its strategy for the coming year and the partnership programs to be applied in Romania.
3.President Basescu attacks Parliament over intelligence leadership Romanian president Traian Basescu unleashed himself against the Parliament during a TV show on Friday morning, accusing MPs of ignoring the fact that the main intelligence services in the country are headless for the time being and of failing to name replacements at their helm.
4.Two Romanian alpinists blocked in the Hymalayas Two Romanian alpinists who tried to climb a peak in the Hymalayas remained have stranded at an altitude of 7,100 m, Romanian news channel Realitatea TV announced today. Other members of the team have failed to come in contact with them for two days.
5.Transdniestr referendum brings tension back to region The separatist republic of Transdniestr in the eastern part of the Moldovan Republic organizes a referendum on the independence of the region on Sunday. The region is planned to join Russia later. The West and Romania are facing Russia as far as the legitimacy of the referendum and the its consequences on regional stability are concerned.
6.President's, Opposition cronies win bid for Bucharest-Ploiesti highway The heavyweights of the Romanian road construction industry managed to defeat prestigious foreigners in winning a tender for the construction of the Bucharest-Ploiesti highway, due to replace the current national road linking the two cities. A consortium formed of Euroconstruct, Spedition UMB, PA&CO International and Comaxa was chosen to run the project as they pushed the cheapest price offer.
7.Dacia loses ground but stays ahead on Romanian car market New car sales reported a 16.2% growth in the first eight months of 2006, up to 141,086 units, but dropped 32.1% in august compared to the previous month, down to 18.817 sold units, according to data from the Association of Car Producers and Importers-APIA.

10.Campanii de angajari la Real si Mediagalaxy Doua din companiile care deschid supermagazine in zona comerciala dintre Selimbar si Sibiu au demarat campanii ample de angajari. Real Hypermarket va fi inaugurat cel mai probabil in noiembrie, aproximativ in acelasi timp cu magazinul Media Galaxy.
11.Ambulanta saraca din Medias Statia de ambulanta Medias are nevoie de 1,5 miliarde de lei vechi pentru a se putea muta in locatia de pe strada Aurel Vlaicu. Municipalitatea a oferit o cladire in locatia fostei unitati militare, insa reabilitarea acesteia trebuie suportata de catre ambulanta, care nu dispune insa de bani.
12.MiniMax Discount deschide un supermarket la Calarasi Au sosit primele utilaje in perimetrul in care MiniMax Discount Romania intentioneaza sa construiasca un supermarket in municipiul Calarasi. Potrivit declaratiilor oficiale, unitatea ar trebui sa fie functionala pina la sfirsitul acestui an.

14.Sistemul after-school - o alternativa pentru parintii ocupati Sistemul after-school este un program nou introdus in sistemul educational din Romania. Zona de acoperire este insa destul de redusa si se aplica doar in institutiile care se ocupa exclusiv cu acest tip de program sau in unitatile de invatamant particulare.
