1.What the newspapers say: September 14, 2006 The political unrest that has taken over Romania in the last few days amplifies and the newspapers do not miss to reflect everything from different perspectives. "Filegate" brings out the former collaborators of the communist regime, who now are placed in top state positions. Dismissals, refusals to step down and feedback to suspension add the spice to the political boiling pot today, while the 4-1 victory of Steaua Bucharest against Dinamo Kiev makes the top of the crème. School is about to start, but the unions prepare protests and refuse to open the classes on Friday, while president Traian Basescu insists on normality and that the pupils go to school on Sept.,15. The CIA flights to Romania topic re-emerges in the press today.
2.Dinamo Kiev-Steaua Bucharest 1-4 Steaua Bucharest reported a huge victory on foreign soil last night as it crushed Dinamo Kiev with a 1-4 victory in Ukraine in the first Group E match of the Champions League. Ghionea (3’), Badea (24’), and Dica (43’, 79’) brought silence to a 70,000-packed stadium that only showed some joy when Dinamo’s Rebrov brought some balance to the game with a goal in minute 15.
3.False bomb alert at Bucharest Palace of Justice A bomb threat was reported at the Palace of Justice in Bucharest on Thursday morning. Police intervened promptly to evacuate the building as several dozen employees were already there to prepare for a protest in favor of higher salaries. The alert was proven false after several hours of searches on the grounds of the institution.
4.Teachers blast PM Tariceanu over salaries The National Education Federation - FEN, a trade union alliance of Romanian education employees, accuse PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu of “arrogance” ofer his refusal to negotiate teachers’ claims with their representatives. FEN says in a press release issued on Thursday that the Government should be blamed for a “crisis” that affects the educational system in the country as real salaries for its members have risen a lot less than the government has promised.
5.France to ratify Romania accession treaty on October 3 Romanian EU Integration minister Anca Boagiu said on Thursday that she received a confirmation that the French Senate would ratify the EU accession treaty of Romania and Bulgaria on October 3.
6.Natural gas prices to stay unchanged until end of year The regulated natural gas prices in Romania will remain unchanged starting October 1, 2006 until the end of the year, the National Natural Gas Regulation Authority-ANRGN announced on Thursday. The price of domestic production will stay at the current price of 330 Romanian lei/1,000 cubic meters.
7.Liberals revolt against President Basescu The head of the Liberal group in the Romanian House of Deputies, Crin Antonescu, has said that Liberal MPs should dissociate with the policies promoted by President Traian Basescu, except for various EU accession-related laws and measures. And he announced that in the future elections Liberals would promote their own candidate for presidency.
8.School starts tomorrow, Minister of Education says The new school year is to start tomorrow in Romania, despite the Education Unions’ protests planned for Friday in Bucharest and throughout the country. The unions’ leaders announced on Wednesday that they would boycott the school opening ceremonies following the meeting with the representatives of the Government which did not conclude with a satisfying salary raise for the teachers.
9.Political analyst Silviu Brucan, former communist Ambassador to US, dies aged 90 Romanian political analyst Silviu Brucan, known in the West as former Ambassador of communist Romania to the US and UN, died following a heart failure while hospitalized in Bucharest on Thursday night. Brucan, 90, had undergone a surgical intervention for heart affection earlier this month.
10.Romanian football teams victorious in UEFA Cup The resounding success of Steaua Bucharest against Dinamo Kiev in the first leg of the Champions League groups on Wednesday, two other Romanian teams, Dinamo Bucharest and Rapid Bucharest, managed two other victories on Thursday. Dinamo defeated Xanthi Skoda 3-4, while Rapid scored 1-0 against Nacional Madeira.
11.Spaga la Vama Ploiesti Adjunctul si alti 13 lucratori ai Biroului Vamal Ploiesti au fost retinuti ieri noapte de procurorii Departamentului National Anticoruptie. Acestia sint acuzati ca ar fi pretins si luat spaga diverse sume de bani in schimbul urgentarii formalitatilor vamale pentru mai multe firme de import-export.

13.Boxa acuzatilor, neincapatoare pentru arestatii din Dosarul "Hydra" Magistratii Curtii de Apel Alba Iulia au respins miercuri, 13 septembrie, recursul declarat de inculpatii din "Dosarul Hydra" impotriva masurii arestarii preventive, dispusa de Tribunalul Hunedoara. Dupa ce, la mijlocul lunii iunie, au fost retinute si apoi arestate 27 de persoane, in luna august alti 13 acuzati au ajuns dupa gratii.
14.Svabilor banateni le sunt "furati" si mortii Urmasii svabilor din Banat vor sa ii ceara presedintelui Romaniei ca cimitirele stramosilor lor sa fie declarate monumente istorice. Raspanditi prin toata lumea, dar mai ales in Germania, cei care se mai intorc pe meleagurile unde au copilarit sunt dezamagiti de lipsa de respect cu care sunt tratate locurile de veci din cimitirele romano-catolice.

18.Marea descentralizare Presedintele Traian Basescu a participat, ieri, la adunarea generala a Asociatiei Municipiilor din Romania de la Baia Mare.
