And pressure is rising on Liberal PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu for a series of moves the media is ready to sanction.
2.PM dismisses Global Affairs official Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu has dismissed one of the best-known Foreign Ministry officials, Teodor Baconschi, who served as state secretary for Global Affairs within the institution, a government press release announced on Wednesday. The document does not explain the reasons for the move, but Baconschi said the decision surprised him and may be caused by a wave of staff cuts in all ministries.
3.Arrested businessman to sue Romania at ECHR Romanian businessman Ovidiu Tender, who was arrested earlier this year and later released pending his trial on organized crime and other charges, announced on Wednesday he would sue the Romanian state at the European Court for Human Rights and claim compensations for every day he was kept “illegally” under arrest.

5.Romanian President condemns bureaucracy in public administration Romanian President Traian Basescu criticized extensive bureaucracy in the harshest terms during a reunion of mayors from across the country in the northern city of Baia Mare on Wednesday. He said there is no difference between how the Romanian state used to work under the communist regime and how it works now, in terms of public administration.
6.Raiffeisen and UniCredit in clash for third place on Romanian banking market The Romanian banking market is close to boiling point these days as two merged banks are ready to join forces with a third to claim a bigger slice of the Romanian banking cake. The merger between HVB and Tiriac Bank is due to be followed by another one, with UniCredit Romania, which is due to conclude by summer 2007.

But Blair warned that restrictions may be introduced on the short-term, via a temporary system of working permits.
10.World Bank sends new representative to Romania The World Bank named French Benoit Blarel to head the Romanian office of the institution replacing Owaise Saadat, whose term expired on June 30. Blarel will start his duties in Romania in about a month.
