7.President suspends Defense minister from post Romanian president Traian Basescu signed a decree by which he suspended Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu from his post, following a last week recommendation by the president to launch a criminal investigation against Atanasiu. President Basescu justified this move as necessary in order not to influence the investigation on abuses allegedly committed by the minister.
8.Education unions dissatisfied with Govt's proposal, prepare protests The Education unions expressed their disappointment with the Romanian Government’s proposal to increase the salaries with 14%. A meeting on Tuesday between the Unions’ and the Financial and the Education ministries’ did not manage to bring the peace between two parties, or to satisfy the financial demands of the professors.
9.Romanian Army Chief of Staff replaced The Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu asked for the replacement of Army Chief of Staff General Eugen Badalan following his criminal investigation in the tiers scandal that involved an exchange between the Army and the Tofan Group that brought serious loss to the Romanian Army. The Romanian president approved the Defense minister’s request.

The Romanian PM expressed the Govt’s intention to speed the privatization process for which it would grant some extra facilities within the legal framework.
