2.BM approves anti-bird flu EUR 30 mln loan for Romania The World Bank approves a loan of up to 30 million euro for Romania to boost bird flu control operations and prepare for a possible human pandemic. The loan comes as authorities in Bucharest believe a new bird flu outbreak is possible in the country due to the existence of large bird habitats on its territory, such as the Danube Delta, and the low bio-security of domestic fowl.

5.Romania reports 0.07% deflation in august August 2006 was the first time in post-communist Romania that the inflation rate turned negative, according to the National Statistics Institute-INS. A 0.07% deflation brought the overall inflation rate for 2006 so far to 2.71%, close to the 4-5% yearly target set by by the Government and the National Bank.

Police retained driver Lucian Tarcineru, son of MP Petru Tarniceru, who was driving under the influence when he ran his car into the little girl, throwing her 25 meters away from the crash spot.
