4.Major Romanian mobile operators scrutinized for possible abuses The Competition Council in Buchares has decided to launch an investigation on possible abuses of the dominant positions the mobile companies Vodafone Romania, Orange Romania and Romtelecom hold on the national market, following complaints from a wired telephony operator. The executive manager of the NetMaster Communications Alexandru Albu expressed his disappointment regarding the lack of courage of other companies to come upfront and complain about the abuses of big companies “because they are afraid to loose the business connections they have with Orange and Vodafone.”
5.Bird flu may reappear in autumn, expert warns The risk of bird flu is not yet over in Romania and authorities must take measures early to prevent a spread of the virus, the head of an infectious disease institute in Bucharest has warned. Adrian Streinu Cercel of the Matei Bals Institute says it is very possible that the H5 virus appear again in autumn this year.
6.Rompetrol investigation brought to end The prosecutors concluded the investigation in the Rompetrol case regarding the oil company’s head Dinu Patriciu and his involvement in alleged embezzlement and stock exchange abuses. The investigation involves also Patriciu's associates Philip Stephenson and Richard Colin Hart. The two are charged among others with the creation of a criminal group aimed at laundering money from capital market and complicity to embezzlement with serious consequences.
7.Romania's wine imports exceed exports The National Wine Union warns that the viticulture in Romania has declined significantly as the country’s wine imports is 165.66% more than exports, according to the data released by the Union for the first five months of 2006.

Stanescu came out after being blackmailed for years by a former head of the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI). He made a plea that all journalists that had collaborated with the former Securitate denounce themselves.
