1.What the newspapers say: July 4, 2006 The Tuesday press abounds in scandals and sensational. Both scandalous and sensational seems to be the situation created by the leak of the high school graduate- exams subjects in general, and, in particular, by their purchase on the “free market” by a journalist from Gandul who has a kinship relation with one of the subjects’ authors. Another scandal is the presidential reverberation on the topic of the troops withdrawal from Iraq and his accusations against the PM. The launch of a new press agency by controversial man and media mogul Sorin Ovidiu Vantu was supposed to be a sensation, but some technical shortcomings prevented the event to become a great success.

The drop was caused by foreign debt payments.
4.Romania trade deficit exceeds 4.5 billion euro in first five months of 2006 Romania’s trade deficit rose 1.2 billion euro by May this year, bringing the total for the first five months of 2006 to 4.63 billion euro. Despite an increase of exports by some 20% compared to the similar period last year, imports had a stronger pace of growth with a 25% advance, a National Statistics Institute press release says.
5.Agriculture minister fires SAPARD chief Romanian Agriculture minister Gheorghe Flutur decided on Tuesday to fire Samoila Szabo, the head of the SAPARD agency managing EU funds for farming and infrastructure development in Romania. Szabo was inefficient in his work and his activity should not be seen as a good reason for a recent growth of funding requests registered by SAPARD - Flutur explained his decision.
6.Romanian Defense minister grilled in Parliament in Iraq withdrawal scandal Romanian Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu is grilled by the Defense commissions of the Romanian Senate and House of Deputies on Tuesday, following his request last week that Romania withdraw its troops from Iraq.
7.Romania likely to adopt Euro before Hungary Romania and Bulgaria are likely to adopt the Euro currency sooner than the already EU member Hungary, according to Budapest Business Journal which quotes an official with Standard & Poor's company. Hungary might adopt the European currency in 2014 due to high budget deficit, while the Romanian Central Bank governor announced that Romania might adopt the Euro in 2012-2014.
8.RCE boasts over 850 auctions in Q1 The Romanian Commodities Exchange (RCE) recorded a 20 % increase of the procedures of procurement and sale in the first quarter of 2006, when 856 auctions rakin place amounted to a total trade value of 181,567 million dollars.
9.Defense minister admits he was wrong in secret document publication On Tuesday, the Romanian Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu withdrew the accusations regarding the presentation by the presidential counsellor Sergiu Medar of an allegedly secret document on a TV channel on Sunday night. The chief of the Intelligence Department with the Defense ministry explained that the document presented by Medar was not classified, but only the transmission method. Therefore, Medar was not guilty of any crime against the national security, Atanasiu admitted.
10.Transelectrica to be listed on BSE Transelectrica shares were oversubscribed by about 6.46 times, as 4.861 investors subscribed for 47.38 million shares valued at 798.08 million RON, according to an announcement issued on Tuesday by utilities Romanian company’s management.

15.Un teren din comuna Varbilau a declansat un scandal monstru - Sepepist acuzat de fals si uz de fals Un lucrator al Serviciului de Protectie si Paza este acuzat de vecina sa ca ar fi falsificat mai multe documente de proprietate pentru un teren care face obiectul unui proces aflat pe rolul instantelor prahovene.
16.Partidul lui Becali a batut la scor Alianta "D.A." Alegerile partiale din comuna timiseana Teremia Mare pentru desemnarea unui nou CL au insemnat o infrangere catastrofala pentru Alianta. Dupa ce la scrutinul din 2004, liberalii si democratii au castigat un numar de 7 mandate in executivul local, acum doar PNL a reusit sa mai prinda unul, raportul reprezentantilor in CL schimbandu-se in favoarea PSD.

In calitate de vicepresedinte al Uniunii Nationale a Crescatorilor de Pasari (UNCPR), el a lasat sa se inteleaga ca scandalul virusului N1H5 ar putea avea legatura cu importurile din domeniu.
18.Turism ilegal pe mana politistilor de frontiera Procurorii Anticoruptie din Oradea au dispus trimiterea in judecata a unui grup infractional format din 37 de politisti de frontiera si operatori de turism. Majoritatea inculpatilor au ac-tivat in cadrul Inspectoratului Judetean al Politiei de Frontiera Satu-Mare.
