1.What the newspapers say: June 30, 2006 Prime minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu’s call for troops withdrawal from Iraq yesterday dominates the front pages of Romanian newspapers on Friday. But most media focus less on the impact of such a move and the way it was announced and opt to turn on the same old story of the confrontation between Tariceanu and President Traian Basescu, now at its peak. Today’s dailies also report on the Romanian bling in Bulgaria, irregularities in the work of Bucharest’s top lawyer and the expected acquisition of a major newspaper by a still to be formed media group.
2.Wave of high prices to hit Romania in July Prices for natural gas, electricity, gasoline, alcohol and tobacco products are due to rise significantly starting July 1, 2006, in accordance with policies announced by the Romanian Government earlier this year. The gasoline price will rise by 500-600 ROL per liter, while a pack of cigarettes will be 20% more expensive.
3.Romanian Supreme Defense Council rejects call for Iraq troops withdrawal The Supreme Defense Council of Romania - CSAT rejected on Friday Liberal PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu’s initiative to push for a withdrawal of Romanian troops in Iraq. Romania will maintain some 600 troops in the Gulf country, the Council decided. CSAT discussed the issue a day after the Tariceanu's Liberal Party submitted a request in this regard.
4.Non-government credit maintains growth Nongovernmental credit in Romania rose to 72.3 billion lei by the end of May 2006, 53.3% up from the similar period last year, following a 100% boost of the lei component and 22.6% growth of the currency component, according to data the National Bank - BCR presented on Friday.
5.Romanian football mogul behind bars The Bucharest Tribunal issued a 29 days-arrest mandate for the head of the Romanian Amateur and Non-amateur Football Association Alexandru Radulescu, for intentionally shooting a young man in the nearby of his lake. The defence lawyer will make an appeal next week. The football mogul shot a 29 years-old man last Sunday while the victim spent a quiet afternoon with his family next to a lake rented by Radulescu.
6.PM maintains position regarding Romanian troops pullback from Iraq The Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu maintained his position on Friday regarding the pullback of the Romanian troops from Iraq, after the Supreme Defense Council together with the Romanian president rejected the proposal coming from the Ministry of Defence.
7.PepsiCo leads Romanian Cola market in Q1 PepsiCo Romania recorded an increase of 26.2% in sales volume in the first quarter of 2006 vs. same quarter 2004, and an average annual growth rate higher than 38 % over the last 6 years, according to a research conducted by the American company Canadean in Q1 of this year.

9.Marinescu indeasa bani publici in roba lui Iorgovan Casa de avocatura a senatorului PSD Antonie Iorgovan a reprezentat, joi, Consiliul Judetean Bistrita-Nasaud in procesul cu Institutia Prefectului, insa dosarul nu s-a judecat nici de aceasta data pe fond din cauza unei greseli facute de juristii Prefecturii.

11.Cartierul invizibil Unul dintre cele mai controversate contracte ale fostei administratii locale din municipiul Arad, cel incheiat cu firma "CasaRom", va fi rediscutat in zilele urmatoare. Documentul a fost parafat de fostul primar Dorel Popa, presedintele filialei PSD in perioada respectiva.

15.Autostrada si centura pentru clujeni Ministrul Berceanu a vizitat ieri santierele de la Tureni si Savadisla, unde firma Bechtel construieste autostrada Transilvania. Cu aceasta ocazie, ministrul a avut vesti bune pentru Cluj: Bechtel va avea parte din partea MTCT de capitalul financiar necesar construirii in bune conditii a autostrazii.
16.Stolojan ataca din nou Apele liberale sunt din ce in ce mai tulburi. Premierul Tariceanu, invitat sa discute despre cele 18 luni de Guvernare, a oferit doar raspunsuri evazive.
17.Aranjamente in spatele votului secret Pentru prima data de la alegerile locale, PSD a reusit sa stranga un numar dublu de voturi fata de numarul consilierilor social-democrati, pentru a se opune unui proiect initiat de presedintele Consiliului Judetean Alba, Ion Dumitrel (PD). Acesta prevede ca fondul de rulment al CJ sa fie folosit pentru achizitionarea a trei imobile.
18.Vuza, cu valiza la Oradea Tavalugul afacerilor lui Stefan Vuza se extinde spre vestul tarii, in judetul Bihor. Presedintele Serviciilor Comerciale Romane (SCR) declara intr-o publicatie locala ca a achizitionat pachetul majoritar de actiuni la trei societati care apartin unui grup de firme din Oradea, insa fara a-l nominaliza.
19.Dorin Florea a pierdut joaca de-a referendumul Cele cateva sute de masini care au circulat ieri, la orele amiezii, bara la bara, in coloana prin centrul municipiului Targu-Mures, nu au fost suficient de convingatoare pentru a-i determina pe consilierii locali sa aprobe organizarea unui referendum legat de dorinta primarului Florea de a construi un drum prin inima unei paduri de la marginea orasului.
