2.Violence marks gay parade in Bucharest Some 500 homosexuals took part in the second yearly gay pride parade in Bucharest on Saturday, part of the GayFest festival dedicated to promoting tolerance and indiscrimination towards sexual minorities. But the event was marred by violence as the Romanian gendarmes guarding the demonstrators clashed with passers-by and anti-gay activists that try to block the event.
3.German group buys leading local newspaper in Romania The Germany-based European Media Invest (EMI Deutschland) has acquired the majority stake in Medianet SRL, the publisher of Romania’s leading local newspaper Monitorul de Iasi. The transaction is part of a development plan that ARBOmedia AG, owner of EMI Deutschland, is applying in Romania, while journalists and owners of the Iasi-based newspaper say it was a normal step in the consolidation process of the Romanian media.

6.Black Sea Forum opens in Bucharest, Russia absent Political, NGO and administrative leaders from several Black Sea countries gathered in Bucharest on Monday for a Black Sea Forum for Dialogue and Partnership, a Romania-led regional initiative that could not, however, benefit of the participation of Russia. The creation of a Black Sea Fund to support regional projects is the first palpable initiative to be announced at the forum.
7.Romanian net average salary up 1.3% in April The net average salary rose 1.3% to 839 RON (some 240 Euro) in April this year, compared to the previous month, according to data presented by the National Statistics Institute on Monday. The boost is based on periodical and Easter bonuses.
8.National Bank reserves down 80 mln euro in May The currency reserves of the Romanian National Bank – BNR stood at 18.2 billion euro by the end of May 2006, down 80.3 million euro compared to April this year. But the gold reserve maintained a constant level of 104.8 tons. The BNR international reserves stand at about 20 billion euro, according to data published on Monday.

10.Local mogul sued on corruption charges The head of a district council in Moldova known for his strong links to the previous Social Democratic (PSD) government has been sent to court on graft charges related to a 2 million euro prejudice, the National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) announced on Monday. Marian Oprisan, who runs the District Council of the Vrancea county in Eastern Romania, is charged with abuse in office, use of credits in illegal purposes and forgery of official documents.
