2.Otopeni bridge in Bucharest opened for traffic A road passage aimed at improving traffic between Bucharest and its northern Otopeni Airport was inaugurated Monday night after two years of works. The opening was attended by Transport minister Gheorghe Dobre and PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu.
3.Pacient-president Traian Basescu in Paris visit Romanian President Traian Basescu is paying a visit to Paris on Tuesday and Wednsday for talks with his French counterpart Jacques Chirac, French Senate speaker Christian Poncelet, National Assembly speaker Jean-Louis Debre and members of the NA Foreign Affairs commission. The talks will focus on Romania’s efforts to join the EU, as the Romanian head of state will press French officials to cover the Accession Treaty ratification process in due time to allow Romania join on January 1, 2007.
4.Rompetrol invests USD30 mln in 2006 Romania’s second largest oil group Rompetrol will invest over 30 million US dollars in the development of its distribution network and foreign storage infrastructure in 2006, it has been announced.
5.Higher fines for bird flu-affected farms The Romanian Government announced today the introduction of higher fines of up to 200 million ROL for poultry farms found in breach with biosecurity norms. The governmental moves, announced by Govt. spokeswoman Oana Marinescu after a new top-level reunion on the campaign to contain the ongoing bird flu outbreak across Romania, include an option to close “guilty” farms if repeated checks within a period of six months reveal the biosecurity deficiencies are still there.

7.Romtelecom profit up 43.5% in Q1 The Romanian mobile phone network Romtelecom recorded an 18.7 million Euros profit, up 43.5% in the first quarter of 2006 compared to Q1 last year, while revenue reached 222.8 million Euros, down 2.3%, according to the financial results announced by the Romtelecom majority shareholder the Greek group OTE.
8.New preventive custody in bird flu case The manager of a poultry farm Aviprod 2002 Ploiesti was taken into custody by Police for 24 hours for having sold forged products banned for consume within April 25 and May 7. Ion Stavri is the third farm manager in Codlea eyed by prosecutors for hiding the fact that avian flu killed their birds, along the Drakom and Patiprod managers.
