1.What the newspapers say: May 24, 2006 It’s above 36 degrees Celsius in Romania and the heat is affecting everything in the economy, especially the authorities’ efforts to tackle the bird flu crisis, newspapers suggest today. Their reports describe a shockingly “funny” Romanian Intelligence Service, a dizzy European Union dealing with Romania’s accession and a confused opposition trying vainly to bring unity in its ranks.
2.President Basescu takes stand in bird flu crisis Romanian President Traian Basescu left hospital on Wednesday to dedicate his first day "out" to the concerted efforts of the Romanian leadership in dealing with the ongoing bird flu outbreak. He left the Elias Hospital in Bucharest directly to the Government headquarters to take part in a governmental session on the bird flu.
3.Thorough restructuring looms at Tractorul Brasov The Authority for State Assets Recovery – AVAS will continue a profound restructuring program at the Brasov-based Tractorul company, no matter the results of the ongoing privatization talks with Indian company Mahindra&Mahindra. According to AVAS head Razvan Orasanu, deactivated facilities at Tractorul might be sold or rented and the money thus obtained be used for the payment of debts and the continuation of plant activities.

6.BNR forecasts 4% inflation rate after Romania’s accession to EU The National Bank of Romania (BNR) maintains the 5 percent inflation target for this year but predicts that in 2008 the inflation rate will drop to 4 percent, following Romania’s accession to EU. The inflation dropped from 9.3 to 8.6 percent in 2005 but it was still higher than the predicted 7.5 percent.
7.Spanish company to invest 5 mln Euros in Cluj plant The Spanish car pieces maker Manufactura Moderna de Metales/Barcelona (MMM) is to invest 5 billion Euros in a Greenfield plant in the central Romanian city of Turda, county of Cluj, according to a press release by the Romanian Agency for Foreign Investments (ARIS).
8.Romanian govt renews car park The Romanian government will grant 49.5 mln RON for the renewal of the national car park , a measure aimed at reducing pollution and replacing old cars. The measure benefits any owner of an old car, who is to be given 3,000 RON.
9.Govt takes over bird flu situation from Agriculture Ministry Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu announced a series of measure for fighting the spread of bird flu virus, to be implemented by a special body that is from today subordinated to the Government and not any longer to the Agriculture Ministry.
10.Intelligence blunder regarding bird flu The report presented by the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) on the origin of the bird flu outbreak two weeks ago in the county of Brasov was severely slammed by both the Romanian president and the PM. The president labeled the report as “embarrassing” and self disqualifying for the SRI. The PM criticized the fact that the situation got an international political dimension due to the blunder by SRI which had made unfounded accusations.
11.Stock investors will increase money sums in coming years The stock investors will increase their financial investments on the stock market in the coming years, according to the head of the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BSE) Stere Farmache. Currently, the physical persons- residents, make up 46 percent of the Stock investors.

Dupa ce in cursul zilei de luni strada Parangului a fost izolata asa incat nimeni sa nu mai iasa din zona, marti Comandamentul local antiepizootic a luat masuri suplimentare pentru a proteja restul orasului.
