On one hand, there is a continuous match between the two governing ally-parties – the Liberals (PNL) and the Democrats (PD), while the opposition parties make efforts to ally and overthrow the government. On the other hand, the violent football match between UEFA semi-finalist Steaua Bucharest and modest Gloria Bistrita, concluded with the latter’s victory and some suicidal Steaua players injuring themselves, is linked to the referee’s political partisanship that allegedly disadvantaged Steaua in favour of Rapid Bucharest in the national championship.
2.Romanian President has hernia, will undergo surgery tonight Romanian President Traian Basescu will suffer a surgical intervention Monday night after supplementary medical investigations today confirmed he suffered of hernia. The surgery will last up to three hours and the Romanian head of state will need a period of post-op recovery of 48 hours, according to staff of the Elias Hospital in Bucharest, where he's been under medical supervision.
3.Bloody anniversary for Steaua The Bucharest football club Steaua celebrated the 20th anniversary of its victory against Barcelona in the European Championship in 1986 in the bloodiest manner possible on Saturday, when the team lost 0-1 in a National Championship match against Gloria Bistrita. Two Steaua players left the field in blood as they seriously harmed themselves in protest against referee decisions during the match.
4.Gold and silver for Romanian gymnasts at European Championships Romnian Marian Dragulescu won the gold in the vault with a score of 16.587 and Flavius Koczi produced the only score over 16 on the pommel horse, on Sunday at the European Men's Gymnastics Championships in Volos, Greece. Romania ranked second in the team final with 270.325, after Russia winning the first place with 272.225 points according to the new scoring system.

10.Five Romanian miners trapped underground An underground flood trapped five miners of the Lupeni Mine during their working hours in the mine in Central Romania on Monday. One of the workers managed to keep hold of the mine ceiling and was rescued by an intervention team. But the other four were still missing in the late afternoon.
11.The May EC report on Romania and Bulgaria may not specify accession date The European Commission might avoid mentioning a specific date for the accession of Romania and Bulgaria in the EU in its report on the progress of the two countries due to be published on May 16, according to Bulgarian news agency Focus News. The two countries hope to receive an EC recommendation for their accession on January 1, 2007, but a European safeguard clause my postpone it until 2008 if enough progress will be found as lacking.

Stolojan Consilierul prezidential Theodor Stolojan a atacat subiecte spinoase: problema fiscalitatii - faptul ca a fost introdusa inechitabil cota unica; promisiuni fara temei legal cu privire la Fondul Proprietatea; intarzierea in introducerea pensiilor private. Criticile adresate actualului PNL pleaca de la teama ca "PNL nu sesizeaza deterioarea pozitiei sale pe scena politica". Declaratiile au fost facute in editia speciala "Marius Tuca Show" de luni, 8 mai, de la Antena 1.

16.Statul vinde Cercetarea la metru patrat AVAS anunta ca pana la sfarsitul anului vrea sa scape de cele 17 institute de cercetare pe care le mai are in portofoliu. Presedintele AVAS, Razvan Orasanu, intentioneaza sa le privatizeze rapid, fara sa mai tina cont de legislatia specifica institutelor de cercetare. Conform acesteia, cumparatorii ar trebui sa fie obligati prin contractul de privatizare sa continue activitatea de cercetare specifica, sa pastreze expertii si personalul calificat.
17.Scrisorile de interes pentru administrarea Fondului Proprietatea - pana pe 15 mai Garantia ce trebuie depusa ar putea fi de 1 miliard de euro. Termenul-limita de depunere a scrisorilor de interes pentru preluarea administrarii Fondului Proprietatea a fost stabilit pentru 15 mai, a declarat agentiei Mediafax presedintele Consiliului de Supraveghere al Fondului, Nicolae Ivan.
