1.What the newspapers say: April 12, 2006 The Wednesday press diversifies the front page topics, but still keeps a critical eye on the story of President Basescu’s allegedly being a former collaborator of the communist secret police. Dinu Patriciu, the head of Rompetrol, is also the main character in some newspapers today following the Monday Court decision to be judged at large, while some telephone recordings prove that Patriciu might be guilty of one of the charges he has been brought – the manipulation of the stock market. The story of CIA planes with terrorists aboard that landed on Romanian airports makes a comeback in EVZ, while the rising waters of Danube keep us on high allert.
2.Flooding risk still high. Danube levels go up Around 100 persons are to be evacuated in the town of Calafat, in Dolj county, following a breach in the dam that separates the Danube and an urban utility channel. Twenty households have been flooded.
3.New 200 RON banknote to be issued by end of 2006 A new banknote is to be infused on the Romanian market starting December 2006. The 200 RON banknote, the equivalent of approximately 57 Euros at the moment, adds to the other 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 RON banknotes. The announcement was made on Wednesday by Mugur Isarescu, Governor of the Romania National Bank (BNR), who said that a new banknote similar to that of 50 Euros would help Romanians to get used to the European currency.
4.Yet another teenager smashed under falling tree A Romanian teenager was hospitalized on Wednesday after he was hit by a falling tree in Bucharest. It is the second such case in Bucharest after another young man was killed under a tree, also in Bucharest.
5.Protesters call for investigation on ex-President Iliescu Several members of a group uniting revolutionaries of the 1989 anti-Communist revolt in Romania forced their way into the Bucharest headquarters of the opposition Social-Democratic Party-PSD on Wednesday and said they would enter hunger strike until the leadership of the political group talks to them. The incident came as hundreds of people were protesting in front of the PSD headquarters, calling for the elimination of Ion Iliescu, ex-President of Romania for much of the 16 years of post-Communism, from the political life.
6.Government sells 70% of Savings House on BCR privatization pattern The privatization of the Romanian Savings House (CEC) will continue with the application of a similar procedure to that used in the privatization of the Romanian Commercial Bank (BCR), the Government announced on Wednesday. The sale of 69.9% of CEC to a strategic investor will be done in three stages.
7.Central Bank governor: sin tax may threaten inflation targets The introduction of a sin tax in Romania may turn inflation targets upside down taking into account the high importance cigarettes have in the Romanian consumer spending, Romanian Central Bank (BNR) governor Mugur Isarescu warned on Wednesday.
8.Home insurance to become compulsory for Romanians in 2007 Romanians will have to insure their homes starting next year, according to a governmental decision on Wednesday. Each family will have to pay an annual 20 euro to insure their households against floods, earthquakes and landslides.
9.Army generals placed under criminal investigations The National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA) in Bucharest confirmed on Wednesday that Romanian prosecutors have launched criminal investigations on the names of two army generals and other 13 officers for abuse in office with grave consequences. They are suspected of producing a 3 million euro prejudice to the state budget by manipulating a tender for the procurement of textiles for military uniforms.

17.Andrea Bocelli vine in Romania De-a lungul vremii foarte multi impresari au dorit sa-l aduca pe celebrul Andrea Bocelli intr-un concert in Romania. Acestia au esuat in negocieri, facand ca planurile lor sa nu se concretizeze. In momentul de fata a intrat pe fir o firma romaneasca de impresariere ce a reusit sa-i faca "program" starului italian.
18.Rapid-Dinamo, un meci cu implicatii Miercuri seara de la ora 21: 45, va avea loc derby-ul etapei 21 a Diviziei A dintre Rapid si Dinamo. Ambele formatii au inregistrat de curand rezultate slabe in meciurile cu marea rivala Steaua, asa ca vor incerca, printr-o eventuala victorie, sa uite de 'cosmarul' ros-albastru.

Prin metode proprii, pe care le-a aprofundat intr-un doctorat in economie subterana. A incercat sa se salveze si prin politica. Dinel Staicu s-a nascut in 1956, in comuna Leu, devenind celebru dupa ce a condus unul dintre cele mai populare cluburi de fotbal din Romania, Universitatea Craiova.
