1.What the newspapers say: March 14, 2006 PSD leader Mircea Geoana’s request for Adrian Nastase’s resignation from his party position and as speaker of the House of Deputies dominates Romanian newspapers on Tuesday. Frontlines also write about EC vice-president Franco Frattini’s visit to Romania before the Commission’s monitoring report to be issued in May. The death of a 17 year-old boy caused by the fall of an uprooted tree in Bucharest is also largely covered by the Romanian media.
2.Fitch Changes Rompetrol's Outlook to Negative International rating agency Fitch reviewed its rating cast on Rompetrol Holland group, downgrading it from B minus stable to negative following the Romanian General Prosecutor’s investigation of the group’s management, writes a press release of the agency. Philip Stephenson, vice-president of the company, said that the Fitch evaluation was normal under the circumstances of a prolonged and abusive investigation run by the Romanian General Prosecutor’s office.
3.Severe weather conditions paralyze Romania Severe weather changes occurred during the first spring days, bringing heavy rain showers and snow in South-Eastern Romania. The southern counties of Mehedinti and Dolj are facing harsh floods due to heavy rain while the Eastern part of Romania is paralyzed by snowfalls. The Black Sea ports have been closed since Monday morning because of powerful winds. The capital is under snow which makes the traffic difficult but the windstorm has stopped.
4.Petrom boasts 391 mln Euros profit in 2005 The biggest Romanian oil company Petrom recorded a net profit of 1.416 bln RON (391 mln Euros) and a turnover of 10,760 bln lei (2.970 bln Euros) in 2005, up 24% compared to previous year, according to financial results released by the company.
5.Grawe buys eleven store-building in Bucharest The Austrian company Grawe bought an 11- store office building in central Bucharest, from the Italian company Eitel, writes a Eurisko press release, the exclusive real estate agent of the project. Grawe will take over the building in the second trimester, most probably in June, according to Eurisko quoted by Hotnews.ro.
6.Government warns against frauds with EU funds Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu requested the anti-fraud office DLAF to intensify checks on how EU funds are used across the country, to prevent possible frauds using European money. He quoted reports that some of the funds were ill-spent with support from politicians.
7.Dacia and Daewoo lose ground on Romanian car market Car sales rose by 8.8% in the first couple of months this year, compared to the same period in 2005. But local car makers Dacia and Daewoo Craiova reported a drop in sales, meaning exports increased substantially in January and February.
8.Romanian soldier in Iraq shoots herself in the head A Romanian soldier of the Romanian 280 Infantry battalion in Iraq shot himself in the head on Tuesday, according to the Defense Ministry in Bucharest. She survived the incident and was hospitalized in Kuwait.
9.9,99% of Petrom shares transferred to Proprietatea Fund Some 5,6 billion shares the Economy Ministry holds in Romanian oil company Petrom were transferred to the Proprietatea Fund, a fund aimed at compensating Romanians for properties confiscated by the former Communist regime, according to a Petrom press release on Tuesday.
10.Social-democratii de la sectorul 1 nu il mai vor pe Nastase PSD sector 1 retrage sprijinul pentru Adrian Nastase. 10 din cei 14 membri ai Biroului Executiv al PSD sector 1 au hotarat, marti, ca nu il mai sustin nici in functiile din partid nici la conducerea Camerei Deputatilor, transmit agentiile de presa.

Vanghelie a spus ca va sustine excluderea lui Adrian Nastase de la presedintia Camerei Deputatilor si din functia de presedinte executiv al PSD.
