3.Renewed hearings in Rafo case Romanian businessman Marian Iancu was facing High Court prosecutors on Monday in a case in which he is charged with producing a 270 mln RON prejudice at the Onesti-based refinery Rafo. He is investigated in the same organized crime case as another Romanian businessman, Ovidiu Tender, arrested preventively on Friday.
4.Tax control body checks National Lottery Romanian Finance minister Sebastian Vladescu asked the head of the National Agency for Fiscal Administration (ANAF) Sebastian Bodu this weekend to initiate fiscal checks on operations of the Romanian Lottery National Company in 2003-2005. The request comes following media reports on possible irregularities at the Romanian Lottery, a Ministry press release says.
5.Romanian president debates top priorities with parliamentary parties Romanian president Traian Basescu met the leaders of parliamentary parties on Monday. The national security laws were still a subject of disagreement between the president Basescu and the Liberal PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu. The PM considers that the six draft laws must be publicly debated whereas the Democrats guarantee that the laws, although confidential, will not give birth anew to the political militia.

7.Ordinance to establish Romanian - Hungarian cultural foundation withdrawn in Parliament The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) asked the House of Deputies on Monday to withdraw an ordinance regarding the establishment of the Public Foundation „Gojdu" in order to allow the citizens to express their views on the topic in a public debate. The request comes in the wake of fierce criticism from the civil society and the Orthodox Romanian Church under whose patronage the Gojdu foundation used to activate.
8.Five finalists for Electrica Muntenia Sud The Privatization Commission selected five companies for the final phase of the selection within the privatization process of the Romanian company Electrica Muntenia Sud: CEZ (Czech Republic), Enel (Italy), Gaz de France, Iberdrola (Spain) si RWE Energy (Germany). The deal might top 750 million Euros for 67.5 per cent of the shares.
9.New strategy for privatization of Romanian Savings House The Romanian Savings House (CEC) announced on Monday it bids 85 per cent of the bank shares, compared to 75 per cent proposed last week. The privatization strategy is to be modified until March 15 and investors can apply until April 25, according to a CEC press release.
10.Romanian company Electroputere to be restructured by June Authority for State Assets Recovery (AVAS) is to restructure the Romanian state-owned company Electroputere Craiova by fusing production activities based on economic efficiency criteria, announced AVAS chairman Monday. The process is due to close in June this year.
