2.National Bank international reserves up by 420 mln euro in February The currency reserves of the Romanian National Bank – BNR rose to 17,688.4 million euro by the end of February 2006, due mainly to a massive currency inflow of over half a billion euro. According to BNR, its currency reserve rose by 422.2 million euro last month, with 585.3 million in incomes resulting from the administration of the international reserves, changes to the minimal currency reserves of commercial banks and other operations.

4.Romanian trade deficit reaches 637.7 million Euro The trade deficit of Romania rose to 637.7 million euro in January 2006, up 66% compared to the same month in 2005, according to data published by the National Statistics Institute on Thursday.
5.Romanian Senate approves DNA ordinance The Romanian Senate approved Thursday the governmental ordinance on the creation of the National Anti-Corruption Department (DNA). Senators voted in favor of the document 109 to 1 with two abstentions, after a similar decision in the House.
6.Ex-Finance minister grilled in Rompetrol case Ex-Finance minister Mihai Tanasescu faces High Court prosecutors’ question on Thursday in the complicated case against the Rompetrol company. It’s the second time Tanasescu is grilled in connection with an ordinance he issued while in office several years ago, that changed into shares the debts to the state held by the Petromidia refinery of the Rompetrol group.

8.Realitatea Media launches business tv station A new TV business station will enrich the Romanian visual media landscape following the license granted by the National Council of the Audio-Visual to Realitatea Media on Thursday. The tv station along with the news channel Realitatea TV belong to one of the most controversial businessmen in Romania, Sorin Ovidiu Vantu. He recently revealed he owns a majority stake in the popular news TV channel.
9.Businessman's third hearing in Rafo case Romanian businessman Ovidiu Tender went through hours of hearings on Thursday when the Bucharest Tribunal debated on a a a 30-day preventive arrest warrant requested by prosecutors. This was for the third time the prosecutors debated upon the propoasal. Tender is charged with embezzlement, money laundering, and participation to an organized crime group in the RAFO case.

The weather bulletins forecast snow all over the country, more powerful in North and rain showers in the Southern regions of Romania. The deputy mayor of Bucharest asks drivers to leave cars at home and use public transport in order to avoid traffic jams.
