Ingrijorarile sale vin in contextul avertismentelor similare ale sefului Royal Navy, amiralul Mark Stanhope, din 13 iunie.
Potrivit unei note obtinute de Daily Telegraph, generalul Simon Bryant, seful operatiunilor de lupta, spune ca angajamentul britanic in Afghanistan si in Libia pune o presiune "enorma" asupra resurselor RAF.
Moralul pilotilor este "fragil" si numeroase sectoare sunt "sub presiune", potrivit acestei note adresate decidentilor politici.
"Doua operatiuni concomitente (Libia si Afghanistan) pun o presiune considerabila asupra echipamantelor si a personalului", scrie el.

Aferim!

"In Halifax, writes his man, there stood, until it was removed in the reign of King James the First, an engine of execution, which worked thus. The condemned man was laid with his head on the cross-base or cup of the scaffold; then the executioner knocked out a pin which held up the heavy blade. The blade descended down a frame as tall as a church door and beheaded the man as clean as a butcher's knife.
Custom had it in Halifax, though, that if between the knocking out of the pin and the descent of the blade the condemned man could leap to his feet, run down the hill, and swim across the river without being seized again by the executioner, he would be let free. But in all the years the engine stood in Halifax this never happened ... "

PM rebuffs military chiefs over Libya
http://www.ft.com/cms/s/0/62bbbada-9c32-11e0-acbc-00144feabdc0.html#axzz1PwVANUf9
David Cameron has lashed out in frustration at comments made by the heads of the armed forces over the UK’s role in Libya, insisting on Tuesday that Britain could continue military action for as long as needed.
The prime minister delivered the latest in a series of public rebuffs to his military chiefs after a warning by a senior Royal Air Force figure that the armed forces are under pressure because of the need to fight simultaneously in Libya and Afghanistan.
Asked what he thought about the comments at a Downing Street news conference, Mr Cameron said: “There are moments when I wake up and read the newspapers and think: ‘I tell you what, you do the fighting and I’ll do the talking.’”
Mr Cameron insisted the UK would be able to sustain its operation for as long as it takes. “Time is on our side, not on [Col Muammer] Gaddafi’s side,” he said.
But despite the prime minister’s confidence, senior officials at the Ministry of Defence believe he will face difficult decisions if the Nato-led operation fails to dislodge Col Gaddafi and continues through the summer and into autumn.
In their view, Britain may have to transfer military aircraft from its Afghanistan operations to ensure that the operation against Col Gaddafi continues after September. It may also have to transfer ships from other roles such as home defence ...
