The Romanian Foreign Ministry declared a diplomat of the Russian Embassy to Bucharest persona non grata in Romania, so he is forced to leave the Romanian territory. The announcement came as a wave of European countries, along with the US and Canada announced the expulsion of dozens of Russian diplomats in the wake of the Skripal case in Britain.

The Ministry announced in a press release that the decision was taken in the wake of the conclusions of the March 23-24, 2018 European Council. As a result, the Foreign Ministry considers the attack in Salisbury a threat to the collective security and international law.

The ministry noted that the European Council agreed with the evaluation of the British Government that it was very probable that the Russian Federation be responsible of the attack and that there be no other plausible explanation.

The Romanian announcement as the US decided to expel 60 Russian spies and the closure of the Russian consulate in Seattle, while Germany decided to expell four diplomats and other countries made similar decisions.
