Romania's President Klaus Iohannis said on Thursday that he would question the governing Social Democratic Party (PSD) ability to govern in case the current government would fall due to internal party struggle.

During a visit to the Ford plant in Craiova, South Romania, Iohannis said that "if this government were to fall, then, of course I should ask myself, very seriously, whether the PSD would still have the ability to govern".

He made the statement as rifts have been deepening between PM Mihai Tudose and PSD leader Liviu Dragnea. Tudose took over as PM this summer, after the previous PSD prime minister, Mihai Grindeanu, was removed by the PSD itself due to disagreements with Dragnea.
